Stocks?!?!?!? I have 2 questions: 1. what is the difference between common stocks and preferred stocks? 2. If you were to start a business of your own, would you organize it as a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a corporation, or a nonprofit organization and why?
What stocks currently have good profits on a weekly basis? I am playing a stock market game at school and I would like to know some stocks that will make me good profits in a short period of time. I have about six weeks left and $100,000 of pretend money. So far I bought BIDU and SIRI and have made nice profits from BIDU. I recently bought SIRI because of the possible merge with XM. Thank you.
What exactly are stocks in the stock market? Please anwer all if possible: What are stocks? How do they work? What is the stock market? What are all the companies that i find market doing in the market? Please, if you can, tell me all there is about stocks, the stock market, etc.
How many stocks should I carry in my portfolio? I am looking to invest long-term (20+ years) and this is my first time buying stocks. I have a medium to high risk tolerance. I will be initially investing $2500. The goal is growth for retirement fund. Wondering how many different stocks to buy with my $2500. Also, what would you say are good markets/industries to buy into now for maximum growth over the next 20 years? I already have mutual funds... so I'm hoping to get into something with more potential payback (realizing the added risk also).
How do I find stocks that pay exceptionally high dividends? I'm looking for stocks that pay a dividend in excess of 15% (I've had them as high as 24%, so I know they exist). Of course, I want this dividend to be paid from profit, instead of the business taking out a loan for it. I am NOT INTERESTED in buying a stock with the intention of selling it. My interest is income. I want to buy the stock, and be able to retire on the dividends... with enough shares, that is. Got any ideas?
Stocks: How do stocks with dividends grow compared to stocks without? I'm looking for a link to such studies here, so hopefully I can save time from doing my own studies. Basically, I'm looking for edges in the market, and even if dividend stocks grow at the same rate as non-dividend stocks, and dividends are a percent, than I will have a percent plus compounding on that percent every year. May not be much, but every edge counts. Please note that only statistics and studies will help me here. Thanks!
How do you sell stocks on the stock market? If you want to sell a stock on the market do you have to set an ask price and have someones bid price match your ask price in order for it to sell or is there a way for you to sell the stock at anytime incase you want to get rid of the stocks quickly without doing the bid ask process?
The story on cheap stocks-Is there money to be made? How much does one need to know? I am thinking about buying up some cheap stocks-like in the $2-20 ea bracket. Has anyone that is "new" to stocks and the market made any money this way? How much of a time investment would it be to learn the ins and outs and keep an eye on the markets? Some say we(the us) is going into a mild recession of sorts-it seems so. Would you suggest informed investing in some cheap stocks right now?
Does anyone know good stocks to invest in and how are mutual funds good to invest in? I wanna know what stocks are starting from low and are starting to climb up before it reaches its peak. How to tell difference between inletted and semi inletted stocks? I acquired several sporter stocks for large ring Mauser from gunsmith's estate. Some are finished, most are not. Want to keep few of them to restock my guns and sell the rest. I want to give accurate description. How can I tell if the stock is fully or semi inletted? Some seems to have precisely cut channels, and some some have rough cut. Yet, when I try to press fit one of my barreled actions into that stock, there is not enough room. Please advise. Thank you.
How to buy stocks for dummies etc? What is the least amount of money that you can invest in? I would like to learn the basics of buying stocks or learning how to buy stocks that would give me a good return on my investment. The issue is I would like to know if there is any solid advice one should know before investing in as well. More or less I would like to know how you can buy stocks online as well. Do they charge a fee for one stock at a time to buy online or you can pay a monthly fee to trade stocks for a set price? I would like to know the best way to seek out a stock broker to trade for you as well as a good guide?
How can I predict that the stocks will breakaway? From technical analysis people can look at the stock chart and predict that the stock will breakaway and go up. I want to learn more about technical analysis, so I can be better with stocks’ trading.
What are the best blue chip stocks to buy right now? I am starting to build a core portfolio of large-cap/blue chip stocks as a foundation. By the time I'm done I want about 7-10 stocks across different market sectors. I want to buy these at the right times based on where the economy is in its cycle. Given the current market, where should I start to look for the first 2-3 stocks for my portfolio? I've been considering XOM and MSFT thus far.

How do stocks get published so quickly and how is it so incorruptible? When I am reading my tv screen and I see that a particular company has "gone up" or "down", where did that tv station or newspaper get the information so quickly to publish? Actually more specifically, how does all this information about pricing of stocks in general get reviewed and published so instantly? How does this happen and what system enables it to happen? How is it so incorruptible?
How to use Standard Deviation and Beta to determine a stocks volatility? I understand how to get the standard deviation for a stock by going through the variance. What I'm curious about is how to convert the stocks standard deviation into the stocks beta value. Also what is considered a low volatile stock as far as standard deviation goes? I know with the beta anything higher than 1.0 is considered highly volatile. Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

What stocks to buy for a stock game in school? Hi, I'm doing a stock simulation game in my Economics class in high school. We have $100,000 to spend and we can have $20,000 to $70,000 of one stock. We can't go under or over. I think we need at least three stocks. The stock game will last about 6-8 weeks I think and I can only have Nasdaq, AMEX, and NYSE stocks. Right now I have LEAP Wireless International (LEAP), Sony (SNE), and LAM Research Corporation (LRCX). Can you tell me if these stocks will be good for a quick growth and recommend me ones that will grow quickly?
Stocks - How can I find out if a company has stock to buy? 2 part ?...If you know a company and think it would be a good investment, how do you find out if they have stock to buy? If they don't have stock to buy, how do you find out if they ever will? Sorry, hope that's not too confusing. I tried to find a company in the stock market. I don't have a clue about stocks, but I tried searching for this company, and couldn't find it. They are a relative new company about 5 yrs old, and I think they are going places. I would love to be able to purchase stock from them, but they don't seem to be listed. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
What do you think about investing in stocks as a beginner? I think the stock market can be a smart thing to experiment in even without much experience, in contrast to most advice given. My reasoning is that you can "practice" picking stocks for a very small amount of money- even under $100. You can buy just 1 stock option and though you won't make much, you won't lose much either and you'll have experience of watching the market. Sure you can argue that you can study the market without putting your money into it, but I think having something on the line- even if it is only a $20 stock option- keeps your attention and diligence. I am inexperienced with stock trading- it's been years since I've owned stock- but I'm smart, I have a financial mind, and I am a quick study. I think I want to take a few hundred dollars and spread it over a handful of well-picked stocks and watch it for a few months to see what happens. Maybe I'll make a profit, maybe I won't. But I'm not risking much. If you disagree, please explain your logic. Thank you! what do you think about zecco.com?
What are the best stocks to trade options in? I'm looking for stock option ideas. My criteria: good underlying stock that is undervalued, good stock and option volume, and stocks that are in a favored sector right now. I already have CSCO call options and expect them to go up this fall. Thanks for your ideas!
What happens to the stocks I own if the broker closes? With the way things are sounding across various stock broker services, I am loosing confidence in my broker. I have several stocks with a particular broker. I f they close down what happens to the stocks I own? How do I regain or at least get to those stocks?
What determines if stocks are going up and down instantly? Since stocks are changing instantly all the time, does that literally mean that the companies computers all over the country are reporting sales? Like if everybody goes out and buys jeans at Abercrombie & Fitch at 11 AM this morning, the stock will shoot up? Can somebody explain it to me, what makes the stocks go up and down instantly?
What is the best way to make money on the stocks & shares market? This may have been asked before but I have recently started on the stock market and am making about 4% a week on an investment of £1300. I have though made some initial mistakes and COULD have made about 8%. I basically see the stock market in two ways: Either you chase hot stocks with a 3 day turnover? I reckon you could get 5-8% every 3 days. Or find a company and invest for the long term (12 months) in which some companies (Jsainsbury) has increased 78% over this time and buy when they have either good or bad news.
What is the best site for charting stocks and funds? I am familiar with Yahoo Finance's charting features as well as SmartMoney's MarketMap. I am looking for the best site that will help me quickly chart the performance of my portfolio (stocks, ETFs and mutual funds) and allow me to quickly switch from daily view to weekly to monthly to YTD and so on. Also, I would like to be able to monitor a large number of stocks that are not in my portfolio currently. Any suggestions?
What is the best site for trading stocks and currency exchange? I am completely new to the world of trading stocks or currency, but I want to get started. I see ads for all these different websites (ameritrade, etrade, etc.), and I was wondering, which (if any) would be the best for a beginner? I'm not looking to get rich quick, but I would like to start investing my money for the long term. Also, which if any of these sites offers a way to trade currencies? Ideally, I would become a member of the site with the best combination of both of these (trading stocks and currency). Thanks

In Stock Ticker, you roll the dice to see what happens to the stocks. There are three possible outcomes for a? In Stock Ticker, you roll the dice to see what happens to the stocks. There are three possible outcomes for a stock: stock goes up, stock goes down, and stock pays dividend. We will ignore the case of dividends for this question. When a stock changes value, it can change by an amount of 0.05, 0.10, or 0.20. (A) Write a pseudocode function that rolls the dice and figures out by how much a stock will change, returning the amount of change. (B) Write pseudocode that initializes the stock values as an array, and then calculates the new values of the stocks after rolling all the dice 5 times. Call the function in (A) to figure out the amount of change, and roll one extra die to determine which stock to apply the result to.

buying stocks verses buying stocks and selling options? i just started learning about buying stocks and selling options. I have read about buy-write options. This is very interesting to me and i wish to learn more. My question is who buys your call options and who buys your put options on the stock that you own?? Is it a better investment to buy the stock or to buy the stock and sell covered calls? A lot of this makes sense but I want unbiased information. Can you buy any stock and sell options? I need more information.... Do you need to find buyers for put and call options? Who delegates strike price?...please help clear this up for me.
Stocks questions, and other investments? Now that I will have my tax rebate come in I wanted to do invest it and make money off of it. Its not much, only a $1000 that I will be able to use but still something. So I have a couple of questions investing. First of all where do I buy stocks? Is software like e-trade any good, is there a fee to use it? If I buy a stock do I have to wait a certain period of time before selling it or can I do it whenever I want? Do I have to have a license to buy stocks? If I buy a stock of a certain company where it is know that it is producing a product, that will sell really well, will the stock price of that company increase when they start actually selling their product or as soon as they announce that they are working on that product? What are some other things I can do with my $1000 to get something out of it?
Active stock traders: Do you trade stocks that are in your long term portfolio? It seems that the stocks in your long term portfolios would be the ones that you have the most confidence in their fundamentals and so on, but also increases your vulnerability and mindset. For example, if I spot a short term death sentence in stock trends for a stock I still have confidence in long term, I could be shorting a stock that I also own! On the other hand, if I follow my instincts, I will constantly buy and sell those stocks in my long term portfolio, and end up turning it into a second trading portfolio, which isn't good for anyone. What is your system here?
Questions on stocks and options? If current stock price is $10. The 3-mth call options have a strike price of $15 and sells for $1.50 now. Stock price indicated to be on the uptrend over the next 6 mths. i) what price must the stock be within 3 mths for both stocks and call options to be equal profitable? ii) If using the option strategy, how much must the stock price rise to within 3mths for the call options to be more profitable? iii) Buying stock or call options will be more profitable?
What gives stocks value? I have been struggling with this question over the last few weeks after reading an article by Andy Kessler. He argues against the value of buying stocks with dividends since it is a signal (in his mind) that the company is giving dividends because they have no other projects to invest in that would provide further gains in income. In fact, it seems like he argued against giving dividends at all. I tend to agree with him on that one, or at least a little bit. However, if I open up a small business, I do so primarily for income. Therefore, if I buy a stock with no dividends, I am looking for capital gains resulting from an increase in demand for the stock. Let's say if a company NEVER gives out dividends, then it seems like people just buy the stock for capital gains, but capital gains result from people buying the stock (i.e. demand), which results in capital gains appreciation. Seems a little circular and that stocks have no fundamental value in that case, only pieces of paper.
Long Term Stocks: You see a Bear Market coming like a freight train. What do you do? If you are going to tell me you can't see it, then hit the back button. Right now. Thanks. Ok, what do you do with your long term stocks when you see a bear market coming and why? Do you: Liquidate all your stocks and watch the market fall Look for stocks to short sell Sell some of your stocks, but keep the ones that are outperforming the market, you have the most confidence in, or have a good history in bear markets (and don't say consumer staples - it's been proven false, and stock speculation has nothing to do with buying toothpaste) Sell worse stocks and keep the better ones to a large degree, just in case you're wrong. Invest in assets with negative betas, such as gold. Other - specify Thanks!
Buy High, Sell Higher, stocks in american markets listed any of choice? Buy High, Sell Higher How many times have you heard the phrase, "buy low, sell high"? This is the conventional wisdom in the investment world, but research shows you shouldn't be concerned with that part about buying low. Let's walk through this one step at a time. Research shows that the best-performing stocks make new highs before they make their major leaps in price. Moreover, stocks at new highs tend to continue moving higher, while stocks making new lows tend to continue to move even lower. This is a concept many investors find difficult to accept. They assume it's too late to buy a stock that's reached an all-time high. But the great paradox of the stock market, as Investor's Business Daily Founder William O'Neil calls it, is "What seems too high and risky to most investors is likely to continue rising. And what seems low and cheap usually goes down." Think about it. If a stock goes from $15 to $50 it has to reach new highs at $16, $17, $18 and so on. Stocks making new lows, on the other hand, manifest inherent weaknesses. Just by applying the laws of supply and demand you can see why new highs are important. When stocks advance, they're demonstrating growing demand as investors raise their expectations about the company. On the other hand, stocks making new lows are usually afflicted by just the opposite: sagging expectations. Yes, there's plenty of stocks in the bargain basement, but they're there because the merchandise, so to speak, isn't hot. Some stocks may have very strong fundamentals or great stories, yet they don't go up because there's little investor interest. So while you wait for a stock to be discovered -- if it ever does -- other stocks are moving into the spotlight. The spotlight, in a way, is the new-highs list, such as the one that appears daily in IBD and is explained later. Stocks reaching new highs tell you professional investors are moving in and pushing prices higher
how exactly do stocks work? ok i am very interested in investing money in the stock market but i have nooo idea where to start? Looking for online discount stock brokers & free info for foreign stocks? I am interested in some foreign stocks that do not have ADRs (American Depository Receipt) available in US. Most brokers do not handle trades of foreign / global stocks. Meanwhile, the free information of foreign stocks is quite limited. Please advise some online discount stock brokers that do handle trades of foreign stocks (more than Canadian stocks), as well as free resources for financial statements of foreign stocks. Thank you =)
Stocks about to undergo reverse stock splits? I am playing a stock market game for my economics class with $100,000 in pretend money. I really want to win and I am wondering about a new strategy I have come across. Is it a good idea to buy stocks about to undergo reverse stock splits? For example, I am thinking of buying JAVA because it is about to have a 1 for 4 reverse stock split. I read that that will make it go from $5 to about $20. If only the stock price increase is accounted for and not the share decrease (e.g. My shares will stay the same while the price increases), doesn't that seem like a logical thing to do? If so, do you know of any other stocks about to have reverse stock splits? Thanks! My teacher would not make me decrease my amount of shares though. Like if I buy 10,000 shares at $5 then it goes up to $20 wouldn't I make $100k? My teacher only looks at the stock price and not the fact that there has been a reverse stock split. So he wouldn't make my 10,000 shares reduce to 2,500. I hope that makes sense. We're not playing like the real world.
confused with stocks...? well i have invested in two stocks ABB and DLF. well i just told the broker to invest in DLF. DLF is listed in both NSE and BSE. the stock price of DLF at which he bought was 646.(something). how do i konw that the stock price has increased? just explain me when the stock prices are updated. sometimes in the ticker in the TV. it says up arrow 46.40 or suddenly the next minute it is down arrow 3.80 but the stock price remains the same. how do i know if the stock price increased or decreased. and sometimes, the stock DLF is not displayed in the TV ticker at all...only sometimes they show. that is not the case with ABB...they display its stock price everytime. just tell me how can i know if the stock price has increased. ..? the up arrow increases but the stock value remains the same..

Penny stocks: Buying at $0.0001 and selling at $0.0002? I recently started trading penny stocks with the advice of a friend. He told me to buy a certain stock at $.0001 and told me to hold on to it until it doubled. I bought $150 worth of that stock. I waited about ten days without seeing any results. The price would jump to $0.0002 buy my sell order wouldn't execute. My friend told me to be patient and said something about a market maker buying it at $0.0002. After ten days the price of the stock tripled at my sell order filled at $0.0002. I walked out with $150 in profit (doubling my money.) My friend on the other hand doubled 4 thousand and ended up with 8 thousand dollars. Now I am tempted to invest $1,000. My question is doesn't this seem too good to be true? My friend claims that there is practically no risk involved because you can always sell back your stocks at $0.001 to the market maker who would buy it immediately. Is this true? What else should I know before buying any further? THANKS! CORRECT ION TO LAST PARAGRAPH: My friend claims that there is practically no risk involved because you can always sell back your stocks at $0.0001 to the market maker who would buy it immediately. Is this true? What else should I know before buying any further? THANKS! THANKS FOR THE REPLIES. My question that I have remaining is that is it not true that I can always get out of the stock by selling it at $0.0001? Ive heard the marketmaker will buy it immediately.

trading stocks with small investment? i am new to trading. i have a small amount of $2000 which i am willing to invest esp in stocks/funds . my main aim is to learn while i invest, and i am even prepared to lose some money while i get valuable experience and knowledge in trading world. I recently opened online trading account with TD Ameritrade and they are offering 1 month commision free trades. so i am thinking to trade stocks for a month, ie to buy and sell them quickly. i know this is not a great idea, but with no commision involved i thought it wont be a bad idea after all. i had few questions 1) is it a good idea for me to trade for a month ( as there is no commision). i might make/lose money but the experience with actual trading might be invaluable 2) which might be the best stocks for a month now. at the end of my 1 month free period i will stop trading and invest this $ 2000 in stocks of 2-3 company. i wanted to ask is it ok what am i doing?
criteria to select stocks for a value portfolio??!!!? 1.Be value stocks. i.e. stocks with a low price-to-book ratio. 2.Select value stocks globally, rather than just domestically, to receive diversification benefits when there is low correlation between countries. 3.When the value stocks have positive value-growth spreads. 4.Value stocks from small-cap companies may experience mispricing and yield higher returns. 5.Choose value stocks with low t-statistics.

How to buy stocks for my son and other investment stuff!!? I know nothing about the stock market, cd's, mutal funds, ira's, etc. (I know, I am working on learning). But I was watching something can't remember who or where and they said that instead of sending X amount of dollars to your grandchild for a present buy them a stock. I thought what a great idea. So I was thinking of purchasing stocks in my sons name for him. How do I go about that. I just found out that you pretty much can't purchase stock from the company that you have to use a broker. Which one is the best, low fees and uneducated investor friendly? Also, what other types of accounts can I open for him for the future? I know about the college savings, but what if he gets a scholorship (ok he's only 7) but isn't it correct that money HAS to be used for college education? We live in North Carolina. Lastly, if anyone has basic laymans terms for me to start learning about investing (stocks, bonds, ira's mutual funds, which is best) or a really good book that would be great!!!

Thinking about buying some EEB, PGJ (China). Any input or suggestions? Or should i wait still (other words, you think the stock market will fall even further)? If I buy Russian stocks directly (not on American exchanges), IS IT LEGAL TO HAVE THEM ON RRSP ACCOUNT? 2). Russian stocks traded on the U.S. stock exchanges all seem to be expensive. Are there less expensive stocks traded in Russia? What are the good stocks to buy and good brokers to contact? Cheers.

I Need To Learn About Stocks. Can Anyone Help Me With Some Of My Questions? I want to start buying/selling stocks. I need help. These are some questions, and I have more but limited space. 1. Do I need to have an account with companies like ScottTrade or Ameritrade? Can I purchase stocks all alone? 2. How do you buy/sell a stock? 3. "Consider selling your stock directly to a colleague, friend or other acquaintance. If you make the sale yourself, you don't pay a commission." I don't get that. I thought you can just hit SELL STOCK and get the price you sold it for. 4. Are penny stocks too dangerous? AIM: Grigorexxxcore Email: grigorexxxcore at gmail dot com

What is the ideal of holding stocks forever ? I was wondering what is the idea of holding a stock forever or long term if the stock does not pay dividends, hardly splits, and the price of the stock goes up and down. Take for example ebay, amazon, apple. Say i buy stocks of ebay for $32 a share. If i hold the stock for 18 months and it does not pay dividends, did not split, and the price remain the same. So lets say in the end 18 months the stock is price at the same as i brought it for $32. 18 months of holding the stock and i gain no profit. lose no money. Couldn't i take my money and invest it in a CD for 18 month and collect 5% interest. What is the idea of holding a stock long term if the stock does not pay dividends, hardly splits, and the price of the stock stay the same. Thanks on advance.
How do i screen for stocks that meet a certain technical criteria? on the chart. For example i want to find all stocks where the bollinger bands have narrowed dramatically. Or let's say all stocks where the MACD has crossed the signal line. Is that even possible or is it something too advanced? I know how to screen for stocks according to fundamental value, like yahoo, scottrade, etc. But i'm talking about strictly technical indicators. Based off chart layouts.

They keep giving me stocks and I am clueless and start thingking of getting 401K? Hello, I worked for Microsoft for 6 1/2 years already and this year, they gave me another 600 of stock share, last year was 400.. I am practically new to USA and work pretty much with MS. At first, I really dont care about stocks at all and I feel embarrased to ask from my officemate. Now, I am thinking of getting 401k through my company, and they told me that they will match it 100%. I guess my question is, what is really stocks for? I have a little knowledge about 401K, but maybe lots of people here are more experienced. I am 27 and single female.
